Apple continues to hire professionals to improve its on-demand Apple TV + video service. The company has now hired a manager James DeLorenzoDeLorenzo was also a senior vice president of Audible, Inc., an Amazon company focused on audiobooks and storytelling.
DeLorenzo will work with the Apple TV team to lead sports-related projects and bring his expertise from his work at Amazon to Apple. This confirms previous reports that Apple is investing in live sports for its Apple TV + streaming service.
Another report from Sports shop every day mentions that Apple is interested in negotiating the Pac-12 conference on media rights deals from 2024. Sports events that are missing from many streaming services due to cable rights would be broadcast live to Apple TV + subscribers.
Apple TV + currently offers a collection of original films and TV shows that were bought or produced by Apple. Live sports partnerships would be a way for Apple to stand out from the competition because its streaming platform still has a limited catalog compared to competing video services.
Apple has not yet commented on James DeLorenzo’s attitude or sports-related projects for Apple TV +.
Tweetscoop: Apple has contracted Amazon’s Jim DeLorenzo to run the sport for its Apple TV unit. DeLorenzo went to Amazon to do sports there in 2016, although his current LinkedIn says he’s on Amazon Audible svp.
